Choose the perfect hairstyle!

The right hairstyle can transform your look and easily take years off your face. An age-defying haircut should ideally flatter the shape of your face, frame it well and give it a feminine look. Here are some age-defying styles that’ll help you look younger.

The Classic Bob

This is one of the most flattering haircuts for all kinds of hair as well as face shapes. The length of the bob can vary depending on the face shape. For instance, if you have jowls, a longer bob would work well as it creates more bounce. Avoid a bob if you have very frizzy hair as it tends to lose the shape and looks unkempt. The best way to sport this style is to air-dry your hair first and then bend a few flicks away from the face with a large curling iron or flat iron.

Long layered hair

It’s completely untrue that women past a certain age shouldn’t have long hair. What matters most is the condition of one’s hair. Since hair thinning mostly occurs after 40, long layers make up for lost density by adding volume at the crown and sides of your head. For those who get this cut and have frizzy hair must use a heat-protection serum and then blow dry the layers with a round-bristled brush. Finish by applying an anti-frizz serum to tame flyaway hair.

Short layered, feathered styles

These frame the face well, lending it a feminine look which suits most face types, especially if you have petite features. The shorter layers add volume near the roots, which makes the hair look thicker. To add extra volume at the crown, wait until your hair is almost dry, aim the dryer at the top of your head and rub your fingers in a back and forth motion at the roots. Alternatively, after blow-drying take a tiny amount of styling wax between your palms, then flip your hair upside down and work the product through your hair. This draws attention to the individual layers and prevents the hair from looking flat.

Pixie cut

If you are always on the move then this cut is tailored-made for you. It enhances both shine and texture, as the hair that’s been damaged by chemical and thermal treatments gets cut off. Ask your stylist to give a soft look, especially around the edges of the cut. To make this haircut extra stylish, run some wax through your hair with your fingers to either define it or give it a tousled effect.

Curtain Bangs

Women often ask for a fringe to conceal frown lines on the forehead. If you decide to get one, then avoid a heavy fringe. Keep it light for a more flattering, feathered effect. It’ll hide your frown lines creating an overall effect that’s quite rejuvenating.

Danielle Jones's foolproof guide to hydrated skin!

Hydrate your skin!

During the hotter months, everyone tends to spend a lot of time in air-conditioned environments, so hydrating your skin becomes key. Hydration, Aquatherm spray mists throughout the day, and a super good cleanser take off all the sweat build-up. Other than that, swap the lip balm you use during the winters for a lip mask and switch to a lighter moisturiser. And of course, SPF is essential!

A summer skincare tip…

Wear a hat! Something I love doing is using an ice roller to give my skin a little TLC! Trust me, your skin will thank you for this.

Your go-to homemade face pack and hair mask…

I would rather EAT the fruit and dahi (yogurt) for inside-out beauty. If I had to choose a homemade face pack that works well for my skin type (which is dry), I would say a mix of banana and honey. This makes my skin feel super soft and hydrated. For my hair, I have always relied on aloe vera packs. They are magical!
